  • During the month of October, the 7th graders worked on a project involving the Native Americans for Social studies class. The students were divided into three groups, and they were responsible for doing research on the Native Americans (Aztecs, Mayan, Inca, etc.).  They worked really hard putting their posters together, preparing PowerPoint presentations, and presenting all their work in class through oral presentation.  They did a super job, and they had a fun learning experiencce.

During the month of October, the 8th graders worked on a project that involved The Industrial Age. They were responsible to put a time line of the events that followed during this era (e.g. Railroads Lead the Way, Inventions, An Age of Big Business, and the Industrial Workers). They worked really hard, and they did an excellent job presenting it.

The 7th and 8th graders were responsible for reading a mystery/suspense book, as this was the genre we were working on for the month of October. In addition, they had to write their own mystery/suspense story, which they had a lot of fun doing. I certainly enjoyed reading them. Also , they were introduced to the author Edgar Allen Poe, and we read, analyzed, and we had a round-the-table discussion about his short story "A Tell Tale Heart." We were able to see a video clip of the story, and I introduced them to a song that had the lyrics of the short story. It was full of expression; they loved it!

In Addition, the 7th graders read My Brother Sam is Dead, which gave them an idea about the soldiers mixed feeling toward independence from Britain during the Revolutionary War. They read it, and we discussed it in class. They did great on their exam and their essay was good!
